Complete the graph begun in class today, if you haven't finished.

Also, there will be a retake of the South and Southeast Asia maps on Thursday after school (for all those who need to improve their grade). This is a "gift" that is being offered. Please take advantage of it; it will not be offered again.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

1. Complete page 118, #1 and #2, definitions in notebook. (If you attended peer mediation training today, you have an extra day to get this in, as well as to read pp. 114 - 118 and put the notes in your foldable.)

2. On Thursday, there will be a retake of the South and Southeast Asia Map for those who did not do well and need to bring up their grade in order to pass. This test will be given after school, so please make arrangements for transportation home after the test.

Period 1: You need to have your parts for "Thank you, America" memorized by Monday.

Everyone: At the end of the month, I will be giving you a test on the words, spellings, and punctuation for the first verse of the Star Spangled Banner. Keep the copy in your folder, and review it often. Practice writing it without looking. Sing along with the TV when you watch the opening of a baseball game. [Notice the sad fact that there are still many adults who don't know the words to their country's national anthem. If you know some of these adults, take the opportunity to teach them the words; that will help YOU to remember them.]

The homework WAS to complete the Lesson 8 math packet. There was trouble with the Internet connection in my portable, so I was unable to get on to write this.

Thursday, May 8, 2008

[Ms. Zaks reset the "airport" and we're good to go -- the Internet is back!]

Finish labeling and coloring the map of Southwest and Central Asia. It will be graded. Spend at least 15 minutes studying the map so that you will be able to name each country using a blank map.

Remember that you are still working on memorizing the Star Spangled Banner. Also, Period 1: Keep rehearsing your "Thank you, America" poem -- you need to recite it with FEELING in order to convey the message of this poem to your audience. [I will keep scouting out t-shirts for you this weekend.]

Get your homework done and get outside! :) It's gorgeous out!

DON'T FORGET "MAY MADNESS" TONIGHT IN THE CAFETERIAS AND GYM.  TAKE A BREAK AND HAVE SOME FUN BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR WEEKEND WORK! (CHECK THE PTG WEB SITE FOR MORE DETAILS.  YOU ARE LUCKY TO HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE WORKING SO HARD SO THAT YOU COULD HAVE FUN WITH YOUR FRIENDS -- REMEMBER TO SAY "THANK YOU.")

The practice quiz on the Star Spangled Banner revealed the fact that too few have spent time actually learning the correct words. [Some versions written by our students were quite creative.] We'll have another practice session next week to see how much progress you are making.  Remember, spelling counts.

Complete the graph assignment begun in class.  Bring it to class on Monday.

Continue learning the names and locations of countries in Southwest and Central Asia.  This is where those on-line games on my home page come in handy.

Period One:  Keep rehearsing that poem with appropriate "emotion."

This may sound like a lot, but if you keep up with the work and study a little bit every night, you will do well on your tests AND still have time for outside activities.  SEE YOU MONDAY!  (PLEASE TRY NOT TO BE ABSENT. FIRST OF ALL, YOU'LL MISS SO MUCH INSTRUCTION, AND SECOND OF ALL, I'LL MISS YOU!  :)

Week of 5/12/08

Wednesday, May 15, 2008

Study Chapter 5, Section 2 for a quiz tomorrow. Use the GR&R sheet that I filled out for you, and the questions in the Section Review. Also, continue to study the Star Spangled Banner for another try. The REAL test is coming up at the end of the month. (Some of you still have a long way to go.)

Period 1: Perfect your delivery of "Thank you, America." It needs to be loud, memorized exactly, and delivered with emotion.

Thursday, May 16, 2008

1. Complete the GR&R sheet for pp. 123 - 127.

2. Study the key terms. Some students have not yet put them in their notebooks (p. 127, 1 & 2). If you are one of those students, please do so tonight.

3. How is the Star Spangled Banner coming? Please use the handout with the correct words. Some students are still using words that they THINK they are hearing, and they are not correct.

4. Period 1, work on the delivery of your poem. Concentrate on the pace of your recitation, and the emotion in your delivery.

5. PLAN TO WEAR YOUR MCAS ROCKY T-SHIRTS TOMORROW, MONDAY, AND TUESDAY.
